3 Actionable Principles for Mature Recovery

by May 27, 2023Responsibiltiy, Taking Action

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a cycle of overthinking?

Trying to figure it all out in your head, analyzing every aspect of your life?

How’s that been working out for you?

Let me tell you something: recovery is not a thinking game—it’s an action game.

Don’t get me wrong, thinking is important, but it’s the action that propels us forward.

We often hear well-intentioned advice like “know your worth” or “love yourself,” but if simply obeying those commands was enough, we would have achieved self-love years ago.

It’s not that straightforward. The key lies in taking action, in doing better so that we can feel better.

So, how can you start taking action and make a real change in your life? Here are three actionable principles to focus on this week:

1️⃣ Do what you said you’re going to do:

It sounds simple, but it’s incredibly powerful. When you make a commitment to yourself or others, follow through. If you promised to exercise three times a week, honor that commitment. By taking action and staying true to your word, you build self-trust and create a positive ripple effect in your life.

2️⃣ Be where you said you’re going to be when you said you’re going to be there, and if you can’t make it, tell someone.

Punctuality is a reflection of your respect for others and yourself. Being consistently on time demonstrates reliability and discipline. Whether it’s showing up for a meeting, a coffee date, or a family gathering, honor your commitments and make punctuality a habit.

3️⃣ Don’t take out your anger on people who can’t fight back.

It’s easy to let frustrations and anger take control, especially when dealing with service staff, children, or anyone who can’t easily defend themselves. But remember, kindness goes a long way. Choose compassion over anger, understanding over impatience. By treating others with respect and empathy, you not only make their day a little brighter but also uplift your own spirit.

Here’s a challenge for you: What is one actionable principle that’s been improving your life? Share it with us in the comments! Let’s inspire each other and learn from our collective wisdom.

As we embark on this path of transformation, we remember the wise words of Paulo Coelho:

The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

Remember, recovery is about progress, not perfection. Take action, make positive changes, and keep moving forward. You have the power to transform your life, one action at a time. ♥️
